Steps to Success

  • Nominate a 'champion' - someone to lead the Challenge, to keep everyone motivated and to circulate regular updates on how you are doing.
  • Encourage each other as you go along and plan some activities to do as pairs or larger groups at lunchtime or after work.
  • Celebrate achievements and successes across your team and the company.
  • Think creatively and you'll be surprised how easily you can make progress towards your target! Here are some ideas to get you started:

- Walk up the stairs rather than using the lifts.

- Use a photocopier, printer, bin or kitchen at the other end of your building or upstairs.

- Get away from your desk and go and speak to a colleague rather than emailing them.

- Catch up with colleagues at lunch time by going for a walk, jog or swim and having a chat.

- Get off the bus one stop earlier –save money, get some fresh air and earn activity points!

- Walk all or some of the way to work one day a week.

- Try cycling, scooting or skating to work.

- Park your car in the furthest parking space – easier to find a space, get some fresh air and earn activity points.

- Park & Stride rather than Park & Ride – time to clear your head, get some air, chat to a friend, save Co2 and earn activity points!

- Don't want to sit in traffic? Challenge a colleague to a game of badminton, squash or tennis after work and then go home when all the traffic has cleared.

- Beat the morning rush. Arrive early and go for a jog, swim or walk before work.

- Buy your workplace an Instant Ping set and take a break from your desk for 10 minutes to play some Ping Pong . Ping sets cost as little as £12 from sports retailers. Take a look at this wonderfully cheesey video which shows you can play just about anywhere. http://tabletennisengland.co.uk/instantpingpong/

- One company has created a toilet challenge! They use toilets on the floors furthest away in order to increase their steps each day.

- Sign up to the Cycle to Work scheme and save money on the purchase of a new bike. http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/

- Hire a bike for the day to get to meetings. http://www.visitwinchester.co.uk/bikeabout
