National Walking Month

National Walking Month is Living Streets' month of celebrating walking and encouraging others to become involved. During May we want to see as many people as possible give walking everyday journeys a go.
- Because it improves our health
- Helps us save money
- Can improve our social life
- And can help aid weight loss
- Improves local air quality and reduces congestion
This year, government figures show that 20% fewer people are walking for at least 10 minutes a week – a huge third of England's population. Plus, we still have fewer children walking to school than we did a generation ago and we want every child that can, to walk to school.
Join us throughout the month by doing the #Try20 daily and track your minutes on the Active10 Walking Tracker app. If you have little ones going to school, then give walking a go – if you pledge to #walktoschool via our website you will receive a toolkit on how to improve the walk to school in your area.
Don't forget to share any walks on social media with #Try20 and @livingstreets
We're providing schools and workplaces with posters about why walking is good for us and to show participation in National Walking Month. There are a bank of social shareables too. If you could share these with your networks, we'd be very happy!
